The ground-breaking ceremony of the Chishang Bridge reconstruction project was held on October 26th. This project was designed and site supervised by T.Y.LIN Taiwan office. Mr. Li Kun-Tsung (director of Construction management) attended this event with TY Lin supervision team. Chishang Bridge is located at the junction of Guanshan Township and Chishang Township in Taitung, and crosses the Beinan River. The original bridge is 858M long as a dual carriageway and it has been nearly 40 years of service. As Taitung in Eastern Taiwan located in high seismic activation fault area, the seismic resistance of old bridge is no longer complied with the current seimic regulations, and the pier foundation was exposed to the scouring. The Highway Bureau, MOTC reconstruct new Chishang Bridge with larger span width to reduce the pier numbers and tolerate the higher flooding height to improve the safety and scenic landscaping. In addition to the separation of the passing lane and slow autobike lane, the new bridge will also link up the Chishang and Guanshan town cycling path to the regional scenic tourist spots. This project construction costs about NT$1.8 billion and construction period for 41 months, and it is expected to be operate in 2027.
The ceremony was attended by VIP including Deputy minister of MOTC Chen Yan Bo, Minister of MOTC Wang Kwo-Tsai, Minister of MOTC Huang Yung-Kue, Minister of MOTC Chen Wen-Rui with representatives, Taitung vice mayor Wang Chi-Huei, and legislators Liu Chao-Hao and Liao Kuo-Tung. On the service of the improvement project, the effect will be not only enhanced the safety of bridges, roads, pedestrians and vehicles, but also deem to the local humanities, environmental sustainability, and transport requirement, to reach the "Road of Opulence " in the East Rift Valley of Huadong which means "safe, scenic, humanistic, and ecological," and boost the regional economic development and tourism industry.
