The Bitan Weir renovation project was designed and site supervised by T.Y.LIN Taiwan. The project commenced in 2020 and the opening service ceremony held on August 29, 2023. Project director Mr. Liu Kuei Nan attended the official ceremony with T.Y. Lin design/supervision team. The Bitan Weir renovation project adopted the fixed weir at both ends and four steel weirs installed in the middle to replace the previous damaged rubber dam. Upstream water environment is created by raising steel weirs which can secure its protection against breaching and river safety during flooding season & extreme weather.
The most splendid design is included eco-engineering concept, which the large fishway in the river basin designed in cooperated with NTHU professor of Life Science Dr. Tzeng C. S. The river is full of more than 20 kinds of diadromous fish migrate. An observation window installed into Bitan Weir fishway, will open for the public to watch biodiversity and fish migration. The underwater video monitoring systems also installed and linked to identification of fish using artificial intelligence (AI) to support ecological research & environmental education. |
