National Freeway No. 1 Wugu Interchange Improvement Program
National Freeway No. 1 Wugu Interchange Improvement Program

Product Description

National Freeway No. 1 Wugu Interchange Improvement Program (Lot 204) (Detailed Design, Construction Supervision and Technology Consultant)

This program included the widening works for the main lanes of National Freeway  No.1 and the access road (Xinwu Road). Five additional ramps were constructed between the main lanes and the access road; and four ramps were rebuilt. Projects such as motorcycle lane diversions and mitigation of earthquake retrofit were also included.

National Freeway South Bound Lanes of 1,740 meters and North Bound Lanes of 740 meters were both widened with 1 extra lane. Seven bridge ramps were constructed or rebuilt. The superstructures of all the bridges were Steel Box Girders with a total length of 1900 meters except the bridge across Xinwu Road which was built with 78 meters long PCI Girders. The substructures were composed of either single columns or double column frames. The abutments were cantilever type and the foundations were composed of cast-in-place RC piles.

The main lanes of the freeway were expanded from 8 lanes to 10 lanes which not only releases the traffic flow back-up on Taishan Toll Station and Xiwu Viaduct but also improves the freeway service level. Additional cross-over bridge ramps reduce the traffic weaving and effectively release the traffic congestion between Wugu Interchange and Hsinwu Road caused by the traffic signal and mitigated the traffic back-up on the freeway.  In addition, the access elevated viaduct of East-West Expressway Bali-Xindian Lane to National Freeway effectively reduced the traffic impacts on Xinwu Road.
