New developments in Tainan City have cause traffic volume to significantly increase in the past years. In an attempt to solve this problem, the city government proposed the "Dawan Interchange Project in Tainan Metropolitan Area, National Freeway No. 1.” This project consists of adding an additional interchange between interchanges Yongkang (319K) and Tainan (327K). This interchange will connect to County Highway No. 180 (324.48K). Also part of the project are the works of County Highway No. 180 bridge (across the freeway) and a new detour viaduct (324.67K). The project costs were estimated around NT Dollars 585 million.
