The 85 Sky Tower is located by the Kaoshiung Harbor. It was completed in 1999 and it has a height of 348 meters (with the roof antenna 378 meters). This structure is not only an important landmark in Kaohsiung, but it is also a world-class skyscraper. It has a very particular design; two separate buildings are combined at the 35th story into a single high-rise structure. The building is essentially an eccentrically braced frame (EBF) steel structure. Box columns are designed to resist heavy vertical loads and filled with high performance concrete (fc'=560kg/cm2) in the lower 60 stories. Wind dampers and stiffened trusses are installed every 20 stories to withstand wind induced drift accelerations.
